How can I connect HP P1606dn printer wirelessly to MacBook Air?

the print driver is installed but the printer remains offline. Will I have to buy cable that connects my printer to my usb-c port or is there some way i can make it work wirelessly.

Hi,

The HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn printer is not inherently wireless-compatible, meaning it cannot directly connect to a Wi-Fi network. To print wirelessly from a MacBook Air, you'll need to connect the printer to your home network using an Ethernet cable and then leverage the printer's web services or utilize a third-party device like a Lantronix xPrintServer.

Here's how you can achieve wireless printing:

1. Connect the Printer to the Network (Wired):

  • Use an Ethernet cable to connect the printer to your home network router or a switch.
  • Follow the instructions provided by HP or the Apple Support Community for setting up the printer on a wired network.

2. Enable Web Services (HP ePrint) or Use a Third-Party Device:

  • HP ePrint:
  • Once the printer is connected to the network, you can enable HP ePrint through the printer's control panel or web interface. This allows you to print documents by emailing them to a special HP ePrint email address, which then routes the print job to your printer.
  • Lantronix xPrintServer:
  • A Lantronix xPrintServer is a small device that connects to the printer via Ethernet and provides wireless capabilities. It can be configured to work with AirPrint, allowing you to print wirelessly from your MacBook Air.

3. Configure Your MacBook Air:

  • AirPrint:
  • If you're using HP ePrint or a Lantronix xPrintServer, your MacBook Air should be able to automatically discover and add the printer to your list of printers in System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Add the Printer Manually:
  • If you're using a third-party solution, you might need to add the printer manually in System Settings > Printers & Scanners, using the IP address or network name provided by the solution.

4. Print Wirelessly:

  • With the printer added to your list of printers, you can print wirelessly from your MacBook Air by selecting the printer in the print dialog box when printing a document.
