What is the last iOS for iPhone XR?

The latest iOS for iPhone XR is iOS 18.

I doubt that the XR will be eligible for the next major iOS version, which I am guessing will be called iOS 19.

So, if you will not ever need to update your XR to anything higher than iOS 18, so you might consider buying the XR.

Plan to buy a new battery for the XR as well at about $100 (U.S).

Personally, I would not consider buying an XR, but it is your decision.

The iPhone XR can run iOS 18 – the current version of iOS.

My working assumption is that the iPhone XR will not be eligible to run iOS 19. It

• Is one of the oldest iPhones on the iOS 18 compatibility list
• Has already received six major iOS updates – one more than many other iPhones have gotten
• Has only 3 GB of RAM. Of the 29 iPhone models that can run iOS 18, only one other has that little.

Now Apple hasn't told us their plans, and maybe iOS 19 will run on the iPhone XR, and it will be "Christmas". But that's not the way I would bet.

I would also strongly advise you to read the article to which lobsterghost1 posted a link before buying any used iPhone. An Activation-Locked "brick", a blacklisted phone, or a phone that is carrier-locked to a carrier that you can't or won't use is no bargain, no matter how "cheap" the asking price is.

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user technical support forum and Apple does not participate here. While the iPhone XR can support iOS 18 at this time, only Apple would know when it will no longer update, and they do not share that information here. The iPhone XR was released in 2018 and discontinued in 2019. I would not consider buying one at this point.

The Xr is capable of running the latest version of iOS: 18.x.

Whether it will be able to run the next version, iOS 19, remains to be seen. No one on this forum knows that. You might want to wait another couple of weeks until the specs of iOS 19 are released; there might be more information as to hardware requirements then, and that will help you make a decision.

Other's have told you iPhone XR can run the current iOS 18.4.1. But I wouldn't buy one at this point. iPhone XR was released in 2018. It is now a 6 year old phone.
