How do I disable swipe between full screen applications on MacBook Air?

I'm logged into my brokerage account. I use 2-fingers on the trackpad to scroll to the top of the screen, and suddenly I'm in an entirely different application. I use 2-fingers to scroll down, and I'm back into my brokerage account. I would like this to stop. In Settings, I set "Swipe between full screen applications" to "Off". It doesn't work.
