Use the uninstaller provided by both MacKeeper and Avast to remove them. Both are problematic apps and any troubleshooting with them installed is going to be very difficult.

If you only see a problem with Chrome, then review any extensions you have installed on that browser. Try using Safari to isolate if the problem only occurs with Chrome. The will help you identify the source of the problem.

If you still experience trouble after following those steps, then additional recommendations can be made. It may be necessary to describe in more detail what is happening and providing screenshots will help visualize what you are seeing.

Part 1 of 2

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster.

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a percentage on each sale.

What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

Disk Cleaner

Un-Like Microsoft Windows, which does have “ Disk Cleanup “ and “ Defrag “ as part of their Operating System

Apple does not

MacKeeper,

Third Party Security Software

Avast AntiVirus

FTC Order Will Ban Avast from Selling Browsing Data for Advertising Purposes, Require It to Pay $16.5 Million Over Charges the Firm Sold Browsing Data After Claiming Its Products Would Block Online Tracking

FTC says despite its promises to protect consumers from online tracking, Avast sold consumers' browsing data to third parties

Part 2 of 2

There are two schools of though on how to remedy this issue

Remove all traces of both applications as previously suggested 👍

The other that is less popular for some

Start Over from Scratch

Heavy Handed - Yes

Effective in removing the AV Software - Yes

For Apple Silicon computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon.

If going this route - I suggest Not using Startup Assist to migrate everything back.

This will probably Re-Introduce ( Both applications ) back into the Operating System
