Cannot change keyboard layout or use emoji keyboard on iPhone Mirroring after updating to iOS 18.5 and macOS Sequoia 15.5

After updating my iPhone to iOS 18.5 and my MacBook to macOS Sequoia 15.5, I can no longer change the keyboard layout by clicking the globe/fn key on my Mac, or open the emoji keyboard using the shortcut Control+Command+Space on my Mac. None of the keyboard shortcuts are responsive now, after pressing the keys, there's just nothing happens on my iPhone and my Mac. It just worked properly in previous versions and this evening after I update the iOS and macOS, it doesn't work at all! I tried to reboot both my iPhone and my Mac but it fixed nothing, the issue just persisted. This is a very big issue since I often and almost only use iPhone Mirroring to type text to my iPhone (especially on the Journal app which is still not available on macOS), if I cannot change the keyboard layout, then this feature just becomes useless at all! So does anyone encounter similar issues to me? Or is it just my own problem? If so, are there any solutions or workarounds to this issue? It is very annoying and I hope it can be solved ASAP!

My MacBook: MacBook Air M2, 2022 (16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage) with the latest macOS Sequoia 15.5

My iPhone: iPhone 12 Pro (256GB of storage) with the latest iOS 18.5

I also encountered a similar problem (iOS 18.5, macOS 15.5), but the issue was resolved after I enabled "Select next source in input menu" in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings of macOS and set it to Ctrl + Space (as shown in the following figure), and now I can normally switch keyboards in iPhone Mirroring using Ctrl + Space.

I hope this solution can help those in need.

Emoji short cut doesn't work as well while mirroring with my iphone.

I've got Iphone 15pro/18.5 OS. Mac-air (2024) Sequoia 15.5. After the latest update. The control/command/space bar to activate emojis has stopped working. My lame work around right now is. While messaging. When I want to use an emoji. I will click on the mac desktop. It puts the Iphone in the background. I hit the fn/globe key. it brings up the Macbook emojis and I drag and drop that emoji into the message. Ughhh. It's lame and it's reduced my emoji utilization by 96%.

Please fix Apple. It's killing me smallz!

I am experiencing the same issues as other users and can confirm that ctrl-space does not work when the shortcut option has been checked. Caps lock does not work even though it's enabled in my settings in iOS, and the globe key does not work either. None of the methods of switching languages that worked before iOS 18.5 work now, and there is no longer any way to switch languages once you're in iPhone Mirroring. I submitted a bug report to Apple last week but have not heard anything back from them.

I have tried everything, even reinstalling macOS, but nothing has worked. I am convinced at this point that it's a bug in iOS 18.5 that they introduced and there's nothing we can do about it.

I used to use the Caps Lock key to switch keyboards layout (aka IME). Same as the OP, I started to encounter this issue since update to 18.5.

I did not modify any settings. And I've confirmed the `Caps Lock Language Switch` is still enabled. Re-enabling it does not help.

I type in multiple languages and this defect makes the mirroring feature useless. I had to pick up my phone to type.

Hope this can be fixed soon!

It's only partially fixed. While it's now possible to switch languages, sometimes it will get stuck with 1 or 2 languages, even though I have 3, indicating the switch on Globe key in the popup, but leaving the actual layout on the same language. If I switch to the Emoji keyboard and then switch the language with the emoji Search input focused, I'm able to select the actual language that I want (maybe it has something to do with the presence of the emoji option in the regular language switch and its lack in the language switch when it's called from within the emoji popup?).

Actually, the thing is, I have my macOS shortcut set to control space. Previously, I tried to use this shortcut for iPhone Mirroring, but it doesn’t work, and only the globe/fn key works for iPhone Mirroring. But this time, after updating, globe/fn key also become unusable. So for now, there’s no way a change the keyboard layout on iPhone Mirroring.
