Why was my Apple Watch Series 4 trade-in value downgraded from $35 to $0?

Recently upgraded from a 4th Gen Watch to a Watch 10 and was given a potential trade-in value of $35 for the old device.

Despite its age the watch was in good shape; no apparent physical damage, all buttons working, etc.

After purchasing my new watch and sending off the trade-in, I just received the valuation results: $0.

"LCD display burn in damage/streaks/discoloration across the screen"

I find that irksome. The so-called damage was certainly not visible despite years of usage.

My issue is not with the lost $35 or that Apple has no use for a nearly 7 year old device. Rather, why dangle that proposed trade-in rebate in the 1st place? It feels like a come-on.

Because the offer clearly states that the trade-in amount depends on the condition of the device. Upon examination it was determined it did not qualify. Your opinion of the condition is irrelevant.
