When viewed from certain angles, the backlight on some keys appears excessively bright and uneven. The laptop has been like this since unboxing. Is this considered normal, or is there a way to resolve it?

There is an individual LED for each key which tends to be located near the upper center area of the key so as not to interfere with the key scissor mechanism's movement. So there will be some differences because of the offset nature of the backlight LED and keep in mind each key has a different symbol on it which can give one key more light shining through than another one.
The mission of that backlight is to allow you to hunt and peck type in the dark.
If that is what is accomplished, the nuances of even-ness are not part of that feature.
It sounds like it is working as intended.
