How to use iPhone without cell service but with Wi-Fi internet?

Our local cell tower is not functioning so I have no phone service but have WiFi internet. Normally the situation would be reversed and I could use my phone as a hotspot for internet. Is there an app or function available on iPhones that will allow them to function via internet without resorting to satellite technology?

If your carrier supports WiFi calling and you have it turned on, you should be able to use it just fine. You should keep it connected to power to avoid having the WiFi radio power down when it's in standby.

If your carrier supports WiFi calling but you did not enable it, go somewhere where you have service and turn it on.

If they don't support WiFi calling, then no... You should be able to do everything except make and receive cellular calls or send/receive SMS and MMS messages. FaceTime and iMessage should work fine on WiFi.
