The iPhone 6, a phone introduced more than ten and a half years ago, cannot update past iOS 12.

This does not indicate that there is any software or hardware malfunction. The iPhone 6 simply lacks the hardware needed to update any further. Every iPhone that can run iOS 15 has at least 2 GB of RAM. The iPhone 6 has only 1 GB.

If you need to run modern apps, it is time to buy a.new iPhone – preferably an iPhone 15- or 16-series phone that can run iOS 18 and is likely to have years of future iOS updates ahead of it.
