Spam warning from getsupport.apple.com "unknown apply pay request"

This is fake and a phishing attempt but I noticed when I googled the phone number, google says its a legitimate number with no results, so I'm creating this post so that it shows up when others search this number on google.

Just received this text message from "mail@hotmail.com" which Apple would never use, but if the text message pops up on your phone while you're doing something else and you click on it too fast it's not as obvious to see the email at the top. The letters in the phone number don't actually match the numbers either, so that's also a dead giveaway.

Good job in identifying and questioning that attempted scam, Kyalbn. 👍🏼

Some key points in a scam:

  1. That message never mentioned you by name.
  2. That phone number directs you to a scammer who is (most likely) working in an organized scam call center in another country (see Apple Contact for more).
  3. Apple ID was referenced. Apple Account has replaced Apple ID, but the scammers don’t know that.

That’s all the evidence you need to block, report and delete the message.

Again, good job in identifying that scam and questioning the message.

In closing:

Except by redacting it now when others google it this will not show in the results, leaving only Google's validation that it's a legitimate number. Google is already showing this as a valid number, regardless of this post. Now all you're doing is removing other's ability to see that it's in fact not valid.

Nope, it just further contributes to the problem. You can report the inaccuracy on the Google search by tapping the 3 dots next to the incorrect search result and then using the Feedback option to report the inaccuracy.

You saw the search result because Google scraped a page showing that number. The solution is two fold, never post these numbers and also report the false numbers to google. A user searching the number is not necessarily going to see your post here in this forum saying it is not legitimate, but they will see the number in the Google search result from data scraped by many different websites.

You are correct that it is a scam. Unfortunately by posting the number you have added to the problem you experienced where Google shows this as a legitimate number. Google scrapes websites for information and will make the conclusion from your post that the number is linked to Apple Support. Yes this is a problem with Google, unfortunately, they take no responsibility for their actions and many users have been duped.

I have asked the moderators to redact the number provided to prevent the spread of this misinformation.
