Do I need malware or virus protection for my MacBook running macOS Sequoia?

I received notification while I was online that a malware activity was in progress. Yo avoid any possible or further damage, I immediately logged off and turned my MacBook off. Now, I’m considering reactivating my McAfee subscription.. will this be helpful?

You just saw an advertisement trying to sell you something that will do absolutely no good and will slow your computer down amongst other conflicts with MacOS. Yes, these companies try to scare you into downloading their software by lying to you.
