I redact parts of a PDF in Preview and save the document. When I reopen the document, there are no redactions. I'm on a Macbook Air with Sequoia. How can I make redactions permanent?

After redacting the content, you can export the file and make sure "Quartz Filter" is set to "None". Alternatively, go to File > Print > Save as PDF. This can flatten your PDF.

You may not get popup if and the devil is in the details

The PDF or PDFs in question where you are redacting
Where do they come from
Some Authors of PDFs may have limited the recipient ( you ) from Modifying Content of their PDF(s)
Only you can answer these questions

Do other markup actions (adding text, or rectangles, or notes) save correctly?
Where are the files stored? Is it possible that they are in some read only location?
