Can't control scrolling in Gmail App on iPad

While reading my mail in the Gmail app on my iPad 13, I often have long-form written material emails to read; news digests and the like. Clicking on the email on the left of the window, of course, brings up the email’s contents on the right. Scrolling through pieces like that are maddening. I’ll scroll down a bit and it will suddenly jump back to the top. I scroll down again (trying to find my place) and after a few moments it jumps back to the top of the page. It keeps getting harder to find my place. This goes on and on making reading these things nearly impossible, not to mention taking 4 times longer than it should to read; that is, if I maintain the patience necessary to stay with it.

Anyone know if there’s any way to stop this?
