Does charging your iPhone completely off save on your battery life and what are the rules of charging an iPhone?

There are a number of support documents regarding batteries. It does not make a difference if you turn the device off. If the battery is dead when you go to charge it, once it has reached a minimum battery value, the device will turn on itself. If you turn it off and then plug it in to charge it, it will turn itself on as well. Here are some of the battery support documents.
