External drives read only after Sequoia 15.5 update

I updated to 15.5 this morning and found that all four of my external drives were suddenly read only. I couldn't save any documents/files to them. If I tried to drag a file onto one of them, a fingerprint/password prompt came up.

I've since changed the settings for each drive to make them writeable and it seems to be working but I wondered if anyone else had experienced this after updating?

Those are not permissions for the entire drive. They are the permissions for the top-most folder. You blotted out the useful information, so I would have to guess at why it reverts.

As Luis noted, unless you need permissions set at all (multiple users with different access to subfolders), set it to ignore ownership on the volume. The fact that you are just chucking files into that top-level folder would seem to imply you don’t need permissions.

Thanks Luis. All four of them are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Three of them I've had for several years, one of them is new. By right clicking on their desktop items and selecting "get info" I was able to change the permissions to "Read & Write". But having come back home this afternoon and checked again, they've all now reverted to read only. Very annoying!
