Voice Control Dictation Issues macOS

I am a quadriplegic with very limited hand and arm function. I am able to use a mouse on a lap desk but I can’t use a keyboard, so I rely heavily on Voice Control. I’m using an M1 Mac Studio with 32 GB of memory and I’m using the microphone on my Mac Studio Display. See my issues listed below

  • Voice recognition is fair, but not great.
  • Random capitalization
  • Sometimes custom commands don’t work.
  • Performance seems to degrade after using dictation for a while.
  • Using the wake up or start listening commands are not reliably recognized after using Voice Control for a short time.
  • The shortcut ”Toggle Voice Control” does not work.
  • Can’t make corrections hands-free. When I say a number the cursor moves over the number but then I have to move my mouse over the word and click on it. Am I missing something here?
  • When I am dictating in Safari and other apps sometimes I see the red symbol indicating that dictation is not allowed in that field. This will sometimes happen even after using that field successfully during the same session.

Toggling Voice Control off and on will fix some of these problems but not always. When it doesn’t, I resort to restarting my Mac.

Has anyone else experienced any of these problems? I’ve been hoping for years that the next macOS upgrade is going to improve dictation but so far it hasn’t.
