I bought a brand new unopened iphone 14 plus but when I switched it on ios 18 was pre-installed on it. how could this be possible? iphone 14 was released before ios 18 even before ios 17!

Where did you purchase this phone? Was it from an Apple Store or Apple authorized service center?
The iPhone 14 was discontinued February 19, 2025, so it is entirely possible that it has iOS 18 preinstalled. The iPhone 15 was released with iOS 17 in 2023, and if you purchased one today, it would also have iOS 18 preinstalled.
