Why is my iPhone so slow after the iOS 18.5 update?

Installed 18.5 last night. Phone worked fine Yesterday now my phone is so slow. With WiFi it's slow and without it's almost to the point I can't use it. I had to refresh 10 times because the download was so slow.

Apple is not here in this user-to-user forum, and hundreds of millions is iPhones on 18.5 are working just fine, so it might pay for you to troubleshoot the problem with YOUR iPhone, not most other iPhones.

As a start: Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.

Not me. I’m using an iPhone SE3, installed 18.5 early this week; it ran a tiny bit warm & slow, ran the battery down quicker than usual in the first 24 hours as various apps did their thing updating to it in the background.

Then back to normal even when I was doing heavy searches and map reroutes on a road trip. Spotty cell service in heavy weather was the only issue.

I understand it really depends on what model, what apps you have and how you have them set to refresh. I keep all but the “most core or important for me” apps set to only update on WiFi &/or when accessed” so they don’t all leap in at once every update.

Edit to add: I don’t think I’ve looked at ‘Garage Band’ in 2 years 😝 so it’s probably still sitting back on iOS 17 or so?!! IDK who uses it; keep thinking I should just free space and uninstall it.
