My MacBook Air Trackpad started working again and then stopped

My 2018 MacBook Air's trackpad hasn't been clicking for maybe over a year now? I've tried to clean round it to get it to work again and it just hasn't fixed anything. Tried to slide the paper trick underneath but couldn't get it under.

Anyway, just now my MacBook died so I plugged it in to charge it and it turned back on. As I logged back in and started to use it, the trackpad suddenly started to click but a couple of seconds later it went back to not clicking.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do or what could be causing it?

Thanks

There's a possibility that the battery is swelling and putting undue pressure on the underside of the trackpad.

Update:

Took it to the apple store last night and they had a look. The guy took my trackpad apart and the battery and reconnected them and it made no difference. He said he could put a new trackpad in for like £200 but decided it's not worth it. It's nearing its 7th year and apart from it not giving me the click feedback, it makes no difference to how the laptop actually runs.

That will only work for the older trackpads which had actual physical movement....2017 and earlier MBAirs. The 2018+ models have Haptic Feedback trackpads which don't have any physical movement....it is all simulated with the Haptic Feedback.

Hard to say. It is likely the Trackpad is just bad. Follow the advice provided by @D.I. Johnson
