Can 40mm Apple Watch bands fit a 45mm Apple Watch Series 7?

I just recently purchased 5 new Apple Watch bands that fit my series 5 Apple Watch, which no longer works. I am going to buy the series 7 45mm, and am wondering if my old bands can fit the new watch. Since I don’t want to purchase more. Even if they don’t fit all the way to the edges I am fine with that, but will it affect the water resistance?
