There will be no iOS 17 update for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 originally ran iOS 10, and it got five major updates - but iOS 15 is the end of the line. The iPhone 7 lacks hardware that all iPhones that can run iOS 16, 17, or 18 have.

I can’t manage phonepay app in this device please update ios 17 software

NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) – the outfit that runs UPI payment in India – has decided that all UPI payments on iPhones must be on iOS 17 or higher. They have, in effect, abandoned your iPhone 7.

The App Store description of the PhonePe app says that it "Requires iOS 15.0 or later." This suggests that PhonePe may have non-UPI-related functions which will work on your iPhone 7. But you will not be able to make or to receive UPI payments on that phone, no matter what app you install. When NPCI and the banks say "Jump", all app vendors who want to handle UPI payments have to say "How high?".

Sorry but your iPhone 7 cannot update to iOS 17. It lacks the necessary hardware and RAM, as a result no longer recevies the latest updates and cannot go past iOS 15.8.4. iOS 17, and 18 is only supported on the iPhone XR and later.

As you can tell, many apps stop supporting previous software versions and most users are likely on the latest software. Whether for compatibility issues or for practical purposes. Apple did not make this decision.

Likely security-related. I've read that UPI payment fraud is a problem in India, and that NPCI asked for a feature that would help them fight some types of fraud. On iPhones, that feature went into iOS 17, and NPCI apparently values it so much that they are willing to abandon older iPhones and versions of iOS that do not support it.

There are other payment systems, elsewhere in the world, that do not require iOS 17, so NPCI could have allowed UPI payments on iOS 15 if they had wanted to.

Servant of Cats, is it okay if I use that information?
