Yes, battery is that old.
Deleting and re-installing notes seemed to solve the issue.
Point taken though will have battery performance checked.

Any suggestions here? I have a lot of notes so it would be very difficult to move to another application
You're lucky that it came back. Now is definitely the time to ensure you have daily backups to save your data, or make sure you are syncing with iCloud.
