How to resolve 'Application Not Supported' error while opening InkScape on MacBook Pro?

Hello!

I'm trying to get help on an issue I can't seem to find

mentioned anywhere else -- either on this forum or on the web in

general. I'm a brand new InkScape user and downloaded my first copy of

the file --  Inkscape-1.4.230579_arm64.dmg -- onto my Sequoia 15.5

MacBook Pro. Whenever I open the compressed file, it comes up with the

little window to drag it into the applications but the InkScape

thumbnail has a little circle with a line through it and is greyed out. I

can drag the file into the applications folder, but when I try to open

it I'm met with a pop-up that says "You can’t open the application

“Inkscape” because this application is not supported on this Mac."

I

know Macs can open .dmg files, so I'm at a loss as to what could be

causing this. I'm not using any type of special hardware or any other

assistants.

If anyone has any help at all it would be greatly appreciated!

So is your MacBook Pro Intel or Apple Silicon. In your screen shot the circle showing the app with a banned icon tells you right away it will not launch on your Mac.

Right click the app icon in your applications folder and select Get Info. Now look for the option “open with Rosetta" and check it. Now try to open the app again. If it opens it means it was coded for Intel Macs and that you have an Apple Silicon MacBook. It also means the developer should have an Apple Silicon version and that you downloaded the wrong one.
