Screen turns off automatically on iPad

Whenever i take up my ipad 10th gen with hand from one side the screen turn off suddenly and for sometimes the screen doesn turn on even when i press power buttom or tab on the screen. But after 5 to 10 sec it again works perfectly. why this is happening?
