how do i fix my iphone 15’s overheating and battery drain issues?

hi, may i know how other iphone 15 users are dealing with the heating issue?

i’ve been using my iphone 15 for about a month now, and i’ve noticed that it gets hot very easily. the battery also tends to drop quickly, from 100% to 80% in no time, even when i’m not using it much.

i haven’t installed many apps, and i don’t keep gps active for all apps either. but the overheating and battery drain keep happening.

if anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. i’d really love to keep this iphone for as long as possible.

thank you!

so far, i’ve just been stopping whenever i feel the temperature getting too high and not because of any warning or frozen screen.

You cannot manually enable the warning message. There are sensors in your phone that monitor the temperature and will automatically bring up that message when it gets too hot. The exact temperature where you will see the message is not published. I have seen it when I left my phone in the car and it was a hot day.

When checking the apps that are consuming your battery, you want to make sure you use the option that says "Battery Usage by App". That will show a percentage and apparently you used the "Show Activity" option which just shows the time. It is more important to know which apps are consuming the most amount of your Battery, not which apps you are using the longest.

If you have not done so already, I would recommend a Force Restart. This is a good step to take especially after a recent iOS upgrade to clear out stale files and any conflicts. It may take a couple of tries to get the speed and sequence of the key presses correct.

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Hold side button until Apple Logo appears. Ignore anything else you see on the screen while holding the side button and it could take up to 15 seconds before you see the Apple Logo. If you do not see it, then try again.

Go to Settings > Battery, and scroll down to see the apps that consume your battery over the last 24 hours. Be aware that Social Media apps are particularly hard on your battery performance due to the fact that many of them include Background Processes that continue to use your battery even when you are not using the app. Meta is probably the worst offender as far as battery efficiency. There have been articles posted online about this behavior and also the same reports of poor battery performance are seen over on the Android Support Site, so it is not even unique to a particular manufacturer. If you have a Meta app, it is simple to delete and test your battery performance, and it is just as easy to download the app again if you wish.

As for overheating, you will get a message on your screen if the phone gets too hot and will not let you continue to use the device until it has cooled down. I suspect you have not seen that screen and yours is operating within its expected temp range.

And the final thing is your Battery Health when checked at Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > Maximum Capacity. Once it drops below 80%, it will be time to replace the Battery. You can expect it to drop about 1% for every 50 charge cycles on average.

You can't enable the overheating message. It happens automatically, IF the temperature of your phone exceeds the normal operating range as a built-in fail safety feature. In other words, if the phone isn't displaying the Thermometer with a message the phone can't be used until it cools off, that means your phone isn't overheating.

You didn't answer Mac Jim ID's question about your current Battery Health?

I'd also recommend you Force Restart your iPhone --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

dear ingo,

thank you for your response.

the first app that showed up was shopee, with 1h 3m on screen and 4m off screen.

and yes, i've already followed all the suggestions from the apple support article since i first noticed my phone overheating easily. but still, nothing has changed...

should i go to an apple care/service centre? if yes, what kind of issue might they find? do you have any idea how much it might cost, or the general price range?
