Why is my AirTag showing an old location and not updating?

Hi, I’ve had an AirTag on my car for about year and have been able to locate our social kitty efficiently with the AirTag, however today it’s been showing “last seen 6 hours ago” at our house in a densely packaged neighbourhood .. though there is a small park out our backyard that is surrounded by houses. She never strays far and shocked the AirTag is not showing any location where she may have been or last pinged after leaving our house hours ago. Any suggestions?

When is the last time you replaced the AirTag's battery? According to Apple is should last approximately a year under normal conditions. Based on your post, it may have become depleted and needs replacing.

Just to be sure. When you replaced the battery for your pet's tag, did it beep when you placed the tag's battery cover back on and pressed down before rotating it? It should to verify that the replacement battery was recognized and working properly.

If it didn't, then try removing and replacing tha battery again. If it did, when you brought the tag near your iPhone, did your phone "see" it in the Find My app's Items tab?

I did replace it, but also I I usually get a warning when the battery is low.. I can see one now in my ski bag is showing low battery’s
