Screenshot can't be saved. Cannot write file to intended destination on macOS 15.5

Since updating to OS 15.5, I can no longer save screenshots to a designated folder other than the desktop, which is very inconvenient. Every time I try, this message pops up:

WHERE are you trying to save to? Be specific. Some locations are read only.

Press Command-Shift-5, then choose the desired location from the Options button.

Where are you trying to send the screenshots.

Try starting up in Safe Mode and test, then restart normally and re-test.
