My daughter’s new iPhone was stolen this spring and she continues to receive text messages from all over the world some are threatening and some are just begging for her to release the phone. She knows better than to take off the find my phone or whatever lockdown feature it has on it. Does anyone know if there is a way to retrieve it if we have a phone number associated with the text messages?

You are doing the right thing in ignoring the messages and keeping the iPhone tied to your Apple Account. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do with the numbers they are sending it from, as they are likely burner or spoofed numbers. I will suggest you report this to local law enforcement and your carrier too.

Get an app such as Bouncer, and filter the texts.
Muting unknown message senders can also be useful at reducing the interruptions to those times when you can more easily deal with the chatter.
If you're asking if you can recover the phone, the answer is almost certainly no.
