Spell checking is not working on my MacBook Air running macOS Sequoia

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble getting spell check to work on macOS. No matter what app I use—whether it's native apps like Notes and Mail, or third-party ones like Google Chrome—spell check just doesn't seem to work at all.

It also doesn't matter what language I'm writing in. I've tried both English and Czech with the same results: no spelling corrections, no red underlines, nothing.

On iOS, everything works perfectly—spell check kicks in right away. But on macOS, it's like the feature is completely disabled.

Does anyone know what I should check or change in settings to make it work? Could there be a system-wide option or something app-specific I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I see the red underlines, but I don’t want small popups with suggestions—I specifically want the text to be automatically corrected. After restarting my Mac, I noticed that autocorrection only seems to work in native apps like Safari or Mail, and even then, it’s not as effective or predictive as it is on iOS. On iOS, it does a much better job of predicting words and correcting typos, including missing carons in syllables. I think I should report this directly to Apple, because it is very strange and unexpected behaviour imo.
