Which port on Macbook pro support charging

M4 Pro MacBook Pro has 3 USB-C port and the MagSafe 3 port. Which of these ports can be used to charge the MacBook and what is the priority for which one actually will actively charge the Mac

Thanks, Peter

All of them.

Charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro - Apple Support

"Your Mac charges over only one port at a time, so connecting multiple power adapters to the USB-C ports and MagSafe 3 port (if present) won't charge your Mac faster. USB-C charge cables support different maximum wattages (W), so ensure you choose the correct cable. If you connect more than one power source, your Mac charges only from the cable and power adapter or display providing the most power."

If you connect multiple power supplies to your MacBook Pro, the one that provides the most power will be used, regardless of the order in which you connected them. This is under the purview of the macOS.

The System information does not itemize the port that is currently charging.

I know of no way to make this distinction per your query.

We do know your Mac will never over charge ...

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.

No problem. My MagSafe was disconnected but the MacBook was still charging. All three usb ports were occupied by potential charging devices and I was just curious about whether there was a priority as to which port was actually actively charging or whether multiple ports were activated at once.

i was referred to the support documentation which explained what was actually happening.

is there a way of determining which is the active port?
