I have tried adding to account to mail on my iPhone. When contacting our IT support, they said it could be because of the intune restrictions

Well, intune is a Microsoft product, your IT administrator should be able to get your phone set up to use your company's exchange on your device.
He/She is the only one that can resolve the issue for you.
