First: Secure Your iCloud Account
If you suspect someone else is accessing your alias, it’s critical to do this before anything else:
- Change your Apple ID password:
- Review your devices:
- Still on the Apple ID site, scroll down to "Devices"
- Remove any devices you don’t recognize
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (if not already enabled):
- In Settings (iOS) or System Settings (Mac) → Your Name → Password & Security → Turn on 2FA
Then: Remove or Disable the iCloud Email Alias
An email alias is like a nickname for your iCloud email. If someone else is using it, you can delete or disable it this way:
How to Remove an iCloud Email Alias
- Go to iCloud Mail on the Web:
- Open Preferences:
- Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the lower-left corner
- Choose "Preferences"
- Go to Accounts Tab:
- You’ll see your main address and any aliases listed
- Disable or Delete Alias:
- To disable, uncheck “Enable this alias” — this stops it from receiving or sending mail
- To delete it permanently, click “Delete” next to the alias
⚠️ You can’t reuse or recreate a deleted alias, and neither can anyone else
- Click Done to save changes.
