MacBook Pro 2020 Apple M1 "No IAL update found"

I'm trying to update from Big Sur to Sequoia. Installer stops at "3 hours and 33 minutes remaining". Log shows "No IAL update found". I had used the "About this Mac" box's "Software Update" button to start the process initially.

I tried booting in safe mode; same result.

I was trying to upgrade the OS because I'm starting to get some slower performance and a spinning beachball at times with some of my software (Nikon NX Studio, for example). I had 43GB of free storage before attempting the upgrade.

Is it that important that I do the upgrade? I could live with things the way they are...

43 GB sound like you are choking...SSD like to have 15-20 % free storage at all times, I'll let you do the math.

—uninstall any VPN (known to cause issues)

—verify your time is synced with the Apple server; from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo sntp -sS time.apple.com

(Please note: your psswd will not echo, type it in anyway, to proceed use the enter/return key. Quit Terminal.app)

these times can be woefully off the mark: ""3 hours and 33 minutes remaining;"

However get on a faster Network if you have slow download speeds...

no resolve —Install from macOS Recovery
