CarPlay Issues with Toyota 2020 - 2022 - solution

Many people have reported CarPlay issues after updating to iOS 18. I initially thought it was an Apple problem, but it turns out the issue is actually with Toyota. Even if your car’s infotainment system says it’s up to date via over-the-air (OTA) updates, you might not be — unless your firmware version is 1162, you’re likely still on an older version.

This affects 2020–2022 Toyota vehicles, and unfortunately, Toyota didn’t widely announce the firmware update when it was released back in 2022. OTA updates won’t get you the latest version — you need to update manually using a USB drive.

To check if your car needs the update, visit Toyota’s firmware update page, enter your vehicle info, and follow the provided instructions. It’s quick and easy. After I updated, all my CarPlay lag and audio issues were completely resolved.
