  1. Go to the Home Screen
  2. Swipe left past all your Home Screen pages to go to App Library.
  3. Tap the Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library, then authenticate using Face ID (or Touch ID or a passcode).
  4. To move the app out of the Hidden folder, touch and hold the app, tap Don’t Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode), then authenticate using Face ID (or Touch ID or a passcode).
  5. The app appears near the top of App Library.

You can then move the app to any Home Screen you want.

Hi Jim, thanks for that. I managed to hide an app and then unhide it, but what happened to the several banking apps that were hidden in there, they didn’t reappear on my home screen?. I could only see them again when I went to App Library, pulled down and the list appeared. I had to open them individually, add them to my Home Screen and then re-hide. Bit of a strange glitch.

That is how it is supposed to work. When you unhide an app, it is not added to any Home Screen, it is simply available in the App Library for you to place wherever you want. Home Screens are personalized, so you can organize them however you wish. For example, some will separate them by function such as games, utilities, and Social Media, and others may put most frequently used apps on the first screen. When you unhide the app, there is no way to know what screen you would want it to appear on, so it remains in the App Library until you place it on the appropriate screen that works best for you. The screen may have also changed when you hid the app, so by returning it to the same screen it was before, could cause other apps moving off that screen and not what you had wanted.

You typically do not hide an app from the App Library, it should be on one of your Home Screens. You can open the app from the Hidden Folder, so you do not need to unhide it, add it to a Home Screen, then hide it again.

  • If your age is set for under 13 on your Apple Account, you will not have that option. The age requirement may be different in your region. For most, you have to be 13 or older.
  • You have quite a few apps on there and if you are using Optimized Storage, then you will see apps removed from your device when space becomes constrained. You can check your storage space at Settings > General > iPad Storage.

There is nothing in the Hidden folder there, so will appear blank after authentication. Hide an app and you will see it in the grid of the Hidden Folder after authentication.
