Did macOS 15 kill off support for Optical drive? I wanted to use it one today and I haven't used mine for a while. macOS see it on the usb list but other than that it will not run any CD Media. I also got another from amazon and the same thing.

Why the MacBooks on a charger can't supply power to an external optical drive is beyond me.....
Because an optical drive demands more current than is allowed by the USB specification.
If you don’t have a powered hub, a Y-cable might help. It draws power from two ports and data over one of them.

Thru a Hub or a Dock may not provide enough power for it to operate properly.
Try connecting it directly to the MacBook Pro using an Apple or aftermarket USB-C to USB-A adapter.

The Apple SuperDrive works fine plugged into the USB C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple
then into my M1 MacBook Air running Sequoia 15.5. Now I have to put everything back.
I had a co worker tried them yesterday, M1 Macs as well and same issue. The earlier users in the post used a USB powered but which made it work. Why the MacBooks on a charger can't supply power to an external optical drive is beyond me.....

It could be. It could be the ports on your Mac or more tolerant. It could be that it hasn’t worn where it was originally designed to use the correct current but wear causes it to drive more current. That happens with portable hard disk drives all the time.
The Apple SuperDrive quite possibly could’ve been built to better specifications than the $10 optical drives you find now.
If either of those drives has a detachable cable, try using a different USB-C cable.
System Report>Hardware>USB>see how many mA are available & needed.

I still have an Apple SuperDrive and it plays fine on my Macs running Sequoia 15.5.
No, both of my LG DVD/CD optical drives work fine running macOS 15.5 Sequoia.
FWIW I mostly only upload music CDs and watch DVD movies.
Both Drives are USB-C. I think the ports aren't providing enough power.....

Have you tried a different port..? Yes all three ports. They show up on system information, the media won't show up on ASUS. For the other one it shows up then doesn't then does again back and forth.
