My @icloud.com email address changed itself to @icloud.com Game Centre.

I have an @icloud.com email address which has changed itself to @icloud.com Game Centre. I never use the wretched gamed centre and now can't access my emails on my imac - although they seem to be still acting normally - so far - on my ipad.

What’s Happening?

Your Mac may have mistakenly:

  • Linked your iCloud email account to Game Center only, instead of recognizing it as a full Apple ID with Mail access.
  • Or it's showing the Game Center label in System Settings and disabling Mail and iCloud sync.

How to Fix It

Step 1: Sign Out and Sign Back Into iCloud on Your iMac

  1. Go to System Settings > [your name] > Overview
  2. Click Sign Out
    • Choose to keep a copy of your data when prompted
  1. Restart your iMac
  2. Sign back in with your @icloud.com Apple ID and password

This forces macOS to properly re-link the account with Mail, iCloud, Game Center, and all services.

Step 2: Re-enable Mail in iCloud Settings

After signing back in:

  1. Go to System Settings > [your name] > iCloud
  2. Make sure Mail is toggled ON

This reconnects the Mail app to your iCloud inbox.

Step 3: Remove Game Center Label (If Still Showing)

If your iCloud account is still labeled as “Game Center” in System Settings:

  1. Go to System Settings > Internet Accounts
  2. If you see an iCloud account labeled only as “Game Center,” remove it
  3. Then, add your iCloud account again:
    • Click the “+” icon > iCloud
    • Sign in with your @icloud.com address and password
    • Make sure Mail is checked

If That Doesn’t Work:

  • Make sure your macOS is up to date
    • Go to System Settings > General > Software Update
  • Clear Mail cache if the app is misbehaving:
    • Go to ~/Library/Mail/ and back up or delete cache folders if you're comfortable doing so
  • Or create a new user profile and add your iCloud account there to test if the issue is system-wide or user-specific.

Need Help?

If you’re uncomfortable with these steps or they don’t work, it’s time to contact Apple Support. They can walk through account-specific issues, especially if something got corrupted server-side.
