Refund problem not covered by Apple policy

Almost a year ago, I started a student Apple Music $5.99 subscription. A week later I canceled my Apple TV+ $9.99 subscription, because Apple TV+ is included in the student Music subscription. I waited a week to cancel the TV+ subscription because that is what Apple Billing phone support recommended.

I did not notice until today that Apple has billed me for Apple TV+ because: 1) I have multiple $9.99 charges on my credit card statement from Apple, which all come from "APPLE.COM/BILL CUPERTINO CA"; and 2) the charges were on my OTHER Apple ID, so they don't show up when I look at my subscription. To further complicate matters, the charges may have started in January this year, which makes no sense. There is no way I signed up for a new Apple TV+ account.

Apple's position is, "You didn't notify us in time." I don't believe the New York State Attorney General Consumer department will agree, but I would prefer not to spend a lot of time on this. However, I have copied this text just in case. I notified Apple Billing phone support that I want a refund because I believe I am paying for their mistake.

To be clear subscriptions on your device are only started when you double click the side button with that subscription showing on that page, followed by verification with FaceID/TouchID or passcode. Since you referred to having multiple Apple ID's this subscription was made on that ID that is different from what you used for your Student Subscription.

Are you sharing your Apple Account with anyone else? If you have given them your Apple Account/Password, they are authorized by you to make purchases. In addition the same is true for the Passcode on your device, where anyone that you have given your Passcode is authorized to make purchases on your device.

You are correct that subscriptions are tied to your Apple Account, and there is nothing stopping you from having multiple accounts where each account maintains their own subscriptions, purchase history, and data. There is also nothing that links 2 of your accounts together where you will see the combined information. Each is managed separately, and protected by the Password along with 2FA to prevent unauthorized access from another device.

I assume you still have access to that other account so you can see exactly when that subscription started in the Purchase History. You can be assured that it was not spontaneously started by Apple and it required a deliberate action either by you or someone you authorized to make that purchase with the Password/Passcode.

Did you confirm that the subscription shows on that Apple Account?

If it shows up there and you did not do, then you must ask yourself who has access to your account and if it is currently signed into on another device. You can view that by reviewing the account at https://account.apple.com/. Apple did not simply add a subscription to your account as you suggest, so you need to look elsewhere, otherwise you are going to continue to have much more serious problems and need to consider securing your account.

Look in your Apple account to see if these charges actually came from Apple. Given the charge line you show, it's almost a 100% certainty they did not.

The charge line on your credit card statement matches one of the many used by scammers.

These are all of the known scam charge lines. There may be more.

If you have charges on your credit card for any of these charge lines, but no matching items actually charged by Apple, then your credit card has been compromised. Contact your card issuer. Have them reverse the charges if possible, then immediately cancel that card and a new one issued.

Geez, Louise. Is this forum always this judgmental?

I have two IDs because I had an ID for years before Apple started Mac.com mail that required a Mac.com address muguy. They told me I could not transfer purchases to the new ID, so I had two choices: have two IDs or throw away purchases.

I did not click on a new full-price TV+ service when I already had free TV+ in my $5.99 Music subscription Mac Jim ID. As Bogey said in Casablanca, "You were misinformed."

Were not being judgmental, we are telling you like it is. Nobody replying here works for Apple so we tend to be a bit matter of fact in explaining things. Since we don't work for Apple there is nothing we can do about this and frankly our opinions about what is fair or isn't also don't matter.

With a purchase from anybody it helps to read the fine print. A fact of life. I am not familiar with a student subscription (having left that behind years ago) but it is possible your music subscription with a different ID may have included a trial subscription to Apple TV? Those free trials automatically convert (Apple tells you this in fine print) to a regular paid subscription after a few months. I'm not sure in your case but in general they do. You have to remember to go in and cancel them.
