I want to lend my AirPods Max to someone since he has a trip planned. However I’m not sure if I should remove it from my iCloud and pair it to theirs temporarily or just make him connect with Bluetooth every time. What do you think I should do?

That's a very personal decision.
Comes down to, do you want to be able to track them, or do you want your friend to be able to use them in a more streamlined fashion?
The AirPods will pair to other bluetooth devices without removing them from your account, but they won't do the seamless switching between Apple devices, and may issue errors on Apple devices when paired, but should still work.
