Screen Sharing Blocked By One 2025 MacBook Air

Hello community. Here's a fun one: like many of you, I am the tech support lifeline for my parents who live quite a ways away. So screen sharing between our Macs is pretty important... and it works without a hitch between my 2021 MacBook Pro and my dad's 2024 MacBook Air. But when I send a screen sharing request to my mom's brand new 2025 MacBook Air (same network and location as my dad), she never receives it. I have tried (several times each, actually):

  • Everything contained in anything related to Screen Sharing in Apple articles
  • Being sure Screen Sharing is enabled on both Macs while Remote Management is not (and Remote Login both off and on)
  • Attempting to connect through iMessage, the Screen Sharing app, and Terminal commands
  • Various Firewall configurations including completely turning it off on both Macs and adding Screen Sharing as an "Accept Incoming Connections" item (though again, my settings work fine connecting to Dad's Mac)
  • Deleting all Login Items on Mom's Mac

This is so weird. What could possibly be blocking Screen Sharing requests on her end?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.5

Well, I got it working, and I'm posting what I did in case it can help someone else.

Thanks to an article (and video) from Stephen Robles at AppleInsider, I noticed he was screen sharing through iMessage without changing any system settings (i.e. General>Sharing & Network>Firewall). So I had Mom turn ALL her Sharing toggles off (including Screen Sharing itself) and did the same on my end, and my next request went through. Sorry if I'm the last one to the party on this,
but I never considered needing to turn Screen Sharing OFF in Settings in order for Screen Sharing to work through iMessage...

mostly because the Apple Support articles all say to turn it on. (Just a note: Remote Management was toggled off the whole time, so that was never a factor.)

Anyway, there you go. All is well. :)

Good computing Platform958 ! Thanks of the update.
