Have you tried the advice you included in your post? I will separate the words to make it easier to read:

Disconnect charging cable to prevent damage to iPhone. Allow the connector to dry. This may take several hours.


If this does not work, it may be best to make an appointment at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar and let them run diagnostics to see if your iPhone can be repaired.
