It doesn’t have any “setup” short of enabling iCloud Keychain if you want to share passwords across devices. That is in the iCloud System Settings.

When you enter a new password somewhere, it stores those credentials in Passwords. If you enable Autofill of passwords in Safari, it will pull the credentials automatically when you authenticate (TouchID, FaceID,or login password/pin).

As my colleague @markwmsn has mentioned

" Password " is a built-in application included as part of macOS 15 Sequoia

macOS Sequoia includes a dedicated Passwords app for sharing your iCloud Keychain login and passwords for websites and apps.

Use the Passwords app to create, manage, and share passwords and passkeys across Apple devices

This Password application is also included in iOS 18 for iPhones and iPads
