iPhone 16 Pro Max screen remains dark and doesn't light up during incoming calls

iPhone 16 Pro Max screen lighting up issue on incoming calls

I am experiencing a recurring issue on my iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.5 where the screen remains dark and does not light up during incoming calls. This issue occurs intermittently, and while it does not happen with every call, it happens frequently. with every 2nd or 3ed call. i have checked the sensor. When the phone receives a call, the screen remains black, and I am unable to see the caller’s information or answer the call by tapping on the screen. I have to restart the phone in the end.

Are you using iOS 18.2.1 or 18.5? Your post claims both for some reason.
Do you have a case/screen protector on your phone? If so, try taking it off and see if the problem remains. There is a proximity sensor on top of the phone that turns the screen off and prevents button presses when held up to your ear, so there are no inadvertent touches detected. The case/screen protector may be blocking this sensor.

Yep, after eliminating the case and any screen protectors, the next step would be to contact Apple where they can perform diagnostics. It is likely they will first restore the software to isolate a hardware issue. Intermittent problems are the most difficult to diagnose, but you may get lucky and have it act up while they are evaluating it.

Not necessarily. Try it without the case and/or screen to eliminate that as a possibility.

Hi there, hope its good at ur end. I am still facing this issue after removing my case and screen. I don’t know what’s possibly going on here. Maybe i should check this one out by Apple support.

note: only when I get a call.

Thank you for your reply. It’s 18.5 i am using. The thing here is if its the case/screen then the problem should be continuous every time. But it happens 2 3 times after another day not regularly.
