I wanted to know if this is a scam caller, they state their texting to have me remove old phone from find my phone. Sounds suspect. Will Apple contact me like this?

Scam.

Even if you forgot to prepare your phone for trade-in and think the messages might be legit, I would assume they are not Unless you have independently verified them with the people to whom you traded on the phone, using a known good contact method not taken from these messages.

Hiw do you know that these messages are not from a thief who stole the phone in transit? You don’t!

Was your old phone lost or stolen?

Apple does not get involved with lost or stolen phones, so If you received a message from "Apple" or "Apple Support", etc., it was a scam that is trying to trick you into removing your phone from the list of devices using your Apple ID.

If you do this, whoever has your phone can erase the phone and set it up again as their own.

No. Apple will never, ever contact you by voice call to have your device removed from your account for any reason.

Also, unless you have recently trade in your phone to Apple, or sent it in for repair to Apple there's no reason for Apple to even call you for that.

Also if they ask for your credentials i.e email and password, that's a dead giveaway it is a scam, Apple will never do that.

Also, Apple will never call you up out of the blue. All Apple calls have to be set up by you first.

Anyone calling you to get the device removed from your account is very likely a scam.
