yesterday I spilled water on my purse and my AirPods may have gotten wet I am laying them out to dry but I’m still wondering if they’ll be okay. I HAVE heard that they are water resistant

AirPods are sweat and splash resistant. Meaning they are most likely to survive water dripping on them, they are not meant to be submerged in water.
Only way you can be sure they are ok is thoroughly dry them off, including the case.
See if they charge, connect to your phone and see if you can hear played content.
