Pros and cons of 'Advanced Data Protection' for iCloud security

Just recently learned about Advanced Data Protection due to so many SPAM emails, texts and phone messages. As I am "technically challenged" (dislike electronics and too old to learn more), I'd hate to add something to my phone that I could not fix. It sounds like something I should add to protect my data in the iCloud. What are the pros and cons? I don't even know if I have an encryption key or some kind of recovery method. Thank you

Enabling ADP will not stop spam emails/calls or text.

The biggest con is losing or not remembering your recovery key.

Advanced Data Protection, a feature for iCloud, enhances data security by enabling end-to-end encryption for a wider range of data categories, including photos, notes, and backups.

This means that only your devices, not even Apple, can access your data.

However, turning it on requires setting up at least one recovery method (recovery contact or recovery key) because Apple won't be able to help you recover your data if you lose access.
