Potential issues with buying a replaced iPhone 15 due to a broken display

My friend had to replace his iPhone 15 because of a cracked or malfunctioning display, and now he’s planning to give or sell the replaced device to a new friend. Could purchasing or using a device that has been replaced due to such an issue lead to any potential problems down the line, such as performance issues, warranty concerns, or other complications?

Thank you for clarifying. So you are receiving the replacement model, yes it should be perfectly fine to use. As I said above, replacement models are usually new or like-new which undergoes testing with a new battery, outer shell, and more. It also comes with the standard 1 Year Warranty if things go wrong.

Do you mean the iPhone was repaired or it was replaced entirely by Apple? It shouldn’t for either. Apple offers a 90 day warranty on repairs so if something wrong was done with the repair, whether materials or workmanship, they would cover it. If this was replaced entirely by Apple, they give you a brand-new or like-new product, and if it is refurbished it comes with a new battery, outer shell, and more. In addition they still give you the 1 Year Warranty so if the iPhone does end up having issues, it would also be covered.

So you want to buy the replacement device, not the replaced device, right?

The replacement device does NOT come with a 1 year warranty. it comes with the balance of the original warranty / AppleCare+ agreement or 90 days, whichever is longer.

Do you know if the phone is carrier locked? If yes, what are the exact details? Best to find out now, rather than later when you might learn that the carrier will not set you up as a customer because of prior issues.

Do you know if the phone might have been banned by SnapChat, or another site? Same advice.

Buying a used phone always carries some degree of uncertainty and risk.

Will your friend provide you with a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the phone. If not....danger....think twice about buying that phone.

I take it that your friend didn't take the damaged phone to Apple for repair. If Apple had repaired it by replacing it, the damaged phone would have become their property and would not be available to give away. If the phone that your friend is giving away has unprepared damage, that certainly could cause issues now or later.

In any case, your friend should read this:
