Xcode update offered, but my Mac does not have Xcode installed

Hello all,

I have a 14" MacBook Pro M1 Pro. The Mac is OS 15.5, I have looked and checked applications and find no instance of Xcode installed. I am not a developer and have no need for installing Xcode.

However, I am being prompted to install a command line tools update for Xcode.

Anyone know what is happening and maybe how to disable the update?

Thanks for any help!

If you installed the homebrew package manager, it will check if either Xcode, or the Command Line Tools for Xcode are installed, and if neither, it will install the latter as a condition of installation as the clang/clang++ compiler and libraries will be necessary to build native executables from installed packages.

The first paragraph will trigger what you now see in Software Update when an updated Command Line Tools becomes available and compatible with your operating system.
