ios 18.5 Iphone 16 battery not verified notification/ phone restarts frequently

Hi!

For a few days now, I noticed my three month old iPhone 16 has been restarting by itself frequently throughout the day. Occasionally on a restart, it would give a notification "battery not verified". Then the next restart it says my battery health reads "normal". Is this a glitch from the new ios upadate or an even bigger issue? Any way to fix this?

iPhone 16, iOS 18

Hi,

Return to Apple immediately.

DO not wait- if you purchased through an alternative party to Apple, it probably needs to go to them instead under warranty.

IF you bought off the net, it has probably been a refurbished unit and isn't NEW!

That alert about 'not identified' is what you get when a third party battery has been installed. Apple don't do THAT!

Forget about self-solutions,

40+ years with Macs and a dozen with iPhones- do not wait.

Best of luck

The phone was not opened prior to being opened from it's factory sealed box when I got it, so it's a little odd this is happening.

To be clear, there is no such thing as a factory sealed box. It is simply shrink wrap that is available to anyone and does not mean it was sealed by Apple. The source of your purchase is what is going to be important. That phone would be covered by warranty, unless it was revealed that it had been previously opened and does not have original parts. If that is the case, expect Apple to just close it up and give it back to you They likely won't even bother attempting any repair. If it is original, then you can expect that it would be fixed with no charge to you.
