Printer problem related to macOS

I have been battling with my Canon printer, trying to get it to print. (Long involved story I don't want to get tied up with here and now.) Currently, I have persuaded it to print only when USB connected, only when it feels like it and then often only the first few lines.

I came across a similar printer issue in this forum some years ago that seemed to be related to a particular version of OS. So on a whim I tried printing my document with my husband's old MacBook Pro, on Big Sur (still USB connected). Result perfect print first time.

Am I right to conclude that Sequoia 15.5 incorporates some feature inimical to printers (in general or Canon -specific)?

And if so, what can I do about it?

Incidentally, I bought the printer, Canon G3570, in July, when I was using my previous Mac, which I think was on Sonoma, and the wireless printing set-up went well. I bought my current Mac some months later and (1) it too was initially running Sonoma and (2) I'm pretty sure printing with that was not an issue at the beginning. I can't remember when I began to have printing problems (though I might be able to pin this down with a bit of research). I had thought I should be tackling the person who supplied the printer, which is obviously still under warranty, but I'm now wondering if Canon are not at fault but Apple are.

Is your printer a Canon MG3570?

If it is it's AirPrint compatible so try the following:

1 - go to System ➙ Printers & Scanners settings pane and remove the Canon.

2 - close System settings and open it again.

3 - add the Canon primer back with AirPrint/WiFi/Wireess as the connection method.

4 - see if you can connect to the printer and print.

I have several Canon printers and I always go to the Canon site and download all drivers. This includes printing and scanning and have no issues. I go to ij.start.canon then find the printer and follow the auto setup process. Works every time. However, I do not see that this process supports the G3570 printer so you may need to relay on the Apple support for drivers. Canon does not show support for Sequoia with this printer

There are 2 ways to install a printer. One is to use the drivers provided by Canon and the other is to use AirPrint if the printer supports it. When you use the Canon drivers, then you are relying on them to update the drivers to maintain support for your computer. Printer manufactures have always done a poor job in updating their drivers and have transitioned to simply support the AirPrint protocol where they do not need to provide any drivers at all.

You should not have any problem printing on your Mac with an AirPrint printer. You just need to make sure you have set up the printer using AirPrint and not have any of the Canon drivers that were previously installed causing a conflict.

As for who to blame, if you are using Canon drivers, then you should blame Canon. If you set it up as an AirPrint printer and it is not working, then you can blame Apple.

Seems to imply you can AirPrint which does not Require an Canon Software Drivers, AT ALL

About AirPrint

Using Epson ET 2750 Printer / Scanner which is AirPrint enabled.

Have not installed any Epson Software Drivers at all when running macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma nor when using macOS 15.5 Sequoia
